Join us for a free yoga practice at River Days to get your body moving mindfully, and help you feel better in mind, body, and spirit, led by Sarah Nelson with Julie Pierce assisting with the chair-supported options!
Yoga is for EVERY body and we always aim to create movement practices that are as accessible and inclusive of as many folks as possible, so ALL are welcome to join us for this yoga class at the Bob Johns Stage - all people, all ages, all bodies, all abilities. Some postures and movements may feel familiar if you've practiced yoga before, and you'll also move in some out-of-the-box ways too - making this a fun and embodied exploratory experience! No prior yoga experience or flexibility are required!
Movement options will be given to include varying bodies' needs, including chair-supported options and accommodation for limited mobility; sign language interpretation will also be provided by VOICE. Although not specifically kids yoga, kiddos are welcome to join with a parent/guardian and will receive a free kids yoga book (while supplies last).
This free yoga class is hosted by the Cultural Awareness Coalition (an initiative of the Midland Area Community Foundation). The Cultural Awareness Coalition brings performances to River Days Festival to support the Coalition’s vision of Midland being an inclusive community. See more info about River Days here: riverdaysmidland.com
Registration is not required - just show up and get your body moving mindfully! Please bring a yoga mat if you have one, and any other yoga props you find helpful; a limited number of mats will be available to borrow, as well as chairs for those who benefit from extra support. There will be limited shade; sunglasses, sunscreen, and water are also encouraged.

This class will start with 30 minutes of restorative yoga poses followed by 30 minutes of sound/vibrations from the crystal bowls to invite therapeutic and restorative processes to the body, mind, and spirit.
Wear comfortable and layered clothes as we will be laying still the last part of the class. Please bring a blanket and pillow to aid in your relaxation.

**New 8 week session begins in August!**
8-week session format with a prerequisite requirement in order to drop in to individual classes: you must either have previously taken this series, or watch/practice this video before attending individual classes. Attending all 8 weeks is encouraged, but not required; click on "register for single event" for individual classes.
This yoga class series is an exploration of whole core care: learning proper deep breathing for core pressure regulation, increasing abdominal strength, unraveling excess tension and unconscious gripping in core & PF, de-stressing mind+body with nervous system calming strategies, understanding functional pelvic floor health, gaining better hip mobility to support PF, and more. This is a relatively gentle and mindful practice for anybody with any body, although it can be particularly helpful for: hip or back pain, building/rebuilding strength in these areas (including but not limited to post-partum), and addressing pelvic floor dysfunction. Please note I am NOT a doctor; always discuss yoga with your healthcare team first!
Expect a uniquely blended yoga practice with functional mobility work, soothing Body by Breath techniques, self-myofascial massage (using the YTU Coregeous ball and other therapy balls) as well as breath-integrated Forrest Yoga and Yoga Tune Up core strengthening exercises.
Each week's class will have a specific theme that builds on the information from the previous weeks:
The work we do in this class is a great complement to whatever your usual movement practices are, with a positive ripple effect through your whole body and nervous system - and truly, your life. You'll leave this class with a more embodied understanding of your own body, better breathing and movement habits, a core that is both strong and supple, and your whole being feeling centered and more calm!
